Autoresponder Review - What to look for in an Autoresponder
Sunday, February 24, 2008 [32]

e-Mail  E-mail  Print  Print Article

The concept of the follow up autoresponder revolutionized Internet Marketing. Now, "Auto Message Setup" promises to bring the field an even greater degree of efficiency.

This recent innovation lets experienced marketers painlessly transfer marketing know-how to their entire downlines. A marketer can now provide each of his downline representatives with a follow up autoresponse system that is already packaged with the marketer's pre-written messages.

The result? Just a few minutes of work on the part of an experienced marketer, and each of his reps is set up with the same tried and true marketing messages.

Case Study: Marketer Martin and the New Breed
For example, take a look at the case of a fictional network marketer named Martin M:

For years, Martin has been successfully marketing All Natural Pharmaceuticals using a follow up autoresponder. In fact, much of his success can be attributed to the set of seven messages e-mailed to all of his potential customers. Martin has carefully crafted those messages over the years, and they're really great.

Recently, Martin has been trying to pass what he's learned along to his downline representatives. He explains his marketing principles over the phone, and he knows that several of his reps pass his follow up messages around amongst themselves.

However, Martin finds that his pearls of wisdom rarely survive this 'telling and retelling' intact. He knows his reps aren't getting anywhere near what they could out of his knowledge. He wishes there were a way to harness today's technology, and put it to use for the greater good of his downline...

Enter Auto Message Setup
Using an Auto Message Setup system, Martin's downline reps can order their own follow up autoresponse accounts that are already packaged with Martin's pre-written messages. They can reap the fruits of Martin's experience with ease.

Each rep will customize Martin's messages for himself by logging in to his new follow up autoresponder account, and entering his own contact information.

Here is Martin's original autoresponse message:
Hi LEAD NAME,

Thanks for stopping by the All Natural Pharmaceuticals web site today! We hope you come back soon!

Best Regards, Martin M.
Martin@super-all-natural-pharm.com 1222 Awlsut St.
Natural, PA 22314

Notice that the message greeting uses a variable, (LEAD NAME). The variable ensures that each of Martin's leads will receive a message personalized with his or her own name. Notice, also, that Martin's name and address are at the end of the message.

Case Study: Downline Robert and the New Breed
Robert is one of Martin's downline representatives. He's ordered his own follow up autoresponder through Martin. Since Martin is using Auto Message Setup, Robert's account came pre-packaged with Martin's marketing messages. Robert personalized those messages to himself by answering a few questions in his Online Control Panel. Now Robert is sending his own personalized version of Martin's messages to his customers! All of the basic content is Martin's, but Robert's contact information is on the letters. Here is the autoresponse that Robert sends to his potential customers:
Hi, LEAD NAME

Thanks for stopping by the All Natural Pharmaceuticals web site today! We hope you come back soon!

Best Regards, Robert D.
Robert@super-all-pharma-ceuticals.com 5123 Farming AWay
Richmond, VA 22222

Notice that the contact name and address at the end of the e-mail are Robert's, but that the greeting at the beginning of the message still includes the name of Robert's lead.

Mission Accomplished!  With Martin's experience in hand, Robert is now marketing more successfully than ever before. And he isn't the only one - Martin's entire downline is now using his marketing messages! Martin's commissions are growing exponentially.

Martin and Robert's situation is not unique. Any network marketer with an established downline can take advantage of the opportunities available in an auto message setup system. There's no better way to put more auto in your autoresponder.

More Options?

As with website hosts there are thousands of options to choose from when selecting the appropriate autoresponder. There are a few things that you will want to look for when choosing your autoresponder.

Personalization features. This will allow you, when emailing your list of subscribers, to address them by their actual names. Doing this will actually increase the amount of sales you make for a recommendation as the person feels more like a person when they are addresses with their actual name.

Broadcast ability. The big money in a list comes in the form of sending out a solo ad style advertisement. You are going to want to be able to send a message to all of your subscribers at the same time.

Import/Export ability. This is not often talked about but is a great feature to have if you ever want to change auto responders. Let’s say you have a list of 10,000 names on a remotely hosted autoresponder and you want to move the list to your new autoresponder that is hosted on your own site. Well if your autoresponder doesn’t have import/export ability, those names are stuck with that autoresponder!

Size restrictions. If you are really good at what you do and you are able to grow a list to mammoth proportions, you are going to want to make sure that your autoresponder can handle the size of your list and be able to mail to the entire list at one time.

Those are just a few of the things to look for in a good autoresponder.

However, the big decision you will have to make when choosing which autoresponder is right for you is whether you want your autoresponder to be run from your own website or remotely hosted.

Remotely hosted just means that your autoresponder will work from someone else’s website rather then your own. There are good and bad points to remote hosting.

Personally, I think that if you are going to do something, do it right. Host your autoresponder on your own website. Altough it's more work, it will pay off in the end.

The most appealing reason to host your autoresponder on your own website rather than a remote host is the look of your autoresponder emails. I can have an unlimited number of auto responders that end in the blablabla@YourSite.com address. The reason that is so appealing is that it matches my domain name address.

Usually if you have a remotely hosted autoresponder, I would not be able to have one address for the autoresponders that match your domain name. It makes sense that they match your domain.  It’s a matter of clarity and professionalism for your potential subscribers and your business.

The best autoresponder software on the market is questionable but here are a few you should take a look into and review. The first is Mailloop (renamed to GetResponse). Check the website for a list of prices and features. It is simple to install and even easier to set up and actually operate. Mailloop comes with an easy to read set up and operation manual so getting things working properly shouldn’t be much of a problem. This is a software package that you own. So, you’ll never pay monthly fees. Also, if you can’t set it up yourself, or don’t want to, you can always pay a professional installer to do it for you. There is a list of accredited installers on the Mailloop website. They charge about $50 for the installation (recommended for the non-technical).

This autoresponder software was actually written for Internet multi-millionaire Cory Rudl. So, you can even sign up as a reseller and make money from referring others to use it!

But if you are just starting out and have to be a little bit cautious of how much money you spend, remote hosting can be a bit of an easier break on the old wallet. you'll be smashing that piggie bank pretty quickly.

Remote hosting can be cheaper on a month to month basis but in the long run it’s more expensive and less effective. However, if you don’t have the bucks to put up, then remote hosting may be the way you want to go.

The best remote host I know of that has all the great features you want in a great autoresponder is GetResponse autoresponders. They have been around for as long as I can remember and that’s because they offer a great service with good support.
